The PQS-2A Non-Magnetic Sonar Set is a portable self-contained sonar designed for use by Military Explosive Ordnance Disposal divers in locating underwater mines and other submerged objects in near zero visibility. The PQS-2A can locate objects within 20, 60, and 120 yard ranges. As a target is located with the PQS-2A, an audible tone is generated in the underwater headset. A low tone indicates a close target whereas a high tone indicates a distant target. Moving towards the target will cause the tone to become continually lower until contact is made. Experience with the system allows an operator to determine range and target characteristics from the echo signal. When the passive mode is selected, the PQS-2A provides bearing information to a pinger or other sound source operating between 24 to 45Khz. Each Sonar Set comes complete with two compasses, rechargeable batteries, charger, two skull cap, two headsets, flotation collar, o-ring lubricant, and a carrying case.
