Making the Case for Covers

By | News Releases | No Comments

The Pressure is on to Reduce the Cost of Corrosion, Increase Readiness and Reduce Maintenance Costs.

THE ISSUE:

Unprotected equipment outside is deteriorating; water intrusion, mold, UV, corrosion.  Corrosion impairs the readiness of military armament. The Army reported a significant number of failures due to corrosion on the 155 mm medium-towed howitzer so severe that they resulted in aborted missions. A study estimates that between 30 to 40 percent of the aborts are direct results of corrosion. Corrosion is also identified as accounting for 39 percent of all unscheduled maintenance for the howitzer, further reducing the readiness levels of the equipment.** Corrosion Cost for Army Ground Vehicles is 12.6 percent of the total maintenance costs for all Army Ground Vehicles.* Corrosion accounts for 8% of weapons down-time or instances wherein they do not function properly.

THE SOLUTION:

Protective Covers. Almost all vehicles that have turrets leak have the following issues: internal mold and corrosion, coating system deterioration due to UV and abrasion, equipment electronic failure from corrosion and excessive heat damage during storage, airborne particulates which cause corrosion and sand damage to windscreens. Protective covers are having a dramatic effect in reducing corrosion from UV, sand, moisture and airborne pollutants. To be effective a cover needs, at a minimum, to be extremely air permeable to naturally offload moisture and heat.  The US Army is having success using special corrosion-reducing covers. An effective protective cover, employed correctly, will significantly improve readiness, reduce maintenance and extend life cycle. “Corrosion remains the largest preventable cost to the U.S. military, a cost which exceeds $23.0 billion per year.” Heat, dust, UV rays and moisture degrade military hardware, leading to decreased readiness, increased manpower requirements and significantly higher long-term costs.

When Selecting A Protective Cover For Your Equipment, Ask the Tough Questions.

  DURABILITY:

  • Is the Cover Hydrophobic, so that it will not absorb water or freeze?
  • Is the Cover Oleophobic so that it will not absorb fuel and lubricants?
  • Will the Cover filter out the fine sand, dust and pollution found in theatre?
  • Does the cover eliminate the destructive “greenhouse effect” in both short and long term use?

  SCIENCE:

  • Is the Cover lightweight, easy to pack and does it require minimal storage space?
  • Can the Cover be easily cleaned in a washing machine or with soap and water in the field?
  • Will the Cover prevent scratches to wind-screens and lenses and reduce paint wear?
  • Can tears and rips to the cover be easily repaired in the field?

  USABILITY:

  • Will the Cover withstand ultraviolet ray (UV) exposure for at least 36 months of 24/7 use?
  • Is the fabric durable enough to sustain rough handling after hundreds of uses?
  • Will the Cover maintain its effectiveness?

For more information about the benefits and cost savings of adopting covers into your equipment lifecycle management program, contact your ADS Representative or Cocoon Inc.

This past weekend, ADS Inc. partnered with the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia (USO HRCV) at ODU’s Military Appreciation Day as part of the Tickets for Troops program.  This program was started by ODU in January 2015 as way of providing complimentary tickets to ODU men’s and women’s basketball games to military members and their families. The program has since grown to include ODU football, soccer and wrestling matches and baseball games.

During the first timeout of the Military Appreciation Day festivities, ADS honored the USO HRCV for their service and dedication to the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces by presenting them with a game ball and a donation. The Monarchs went on to win the game against UTEP with a score of 31-21.  For game highlights click over to the ODU Sports webpage HERE.  Our own Jason Wallace got some air time on the radio during the game to talk about the Tickets for Troops program and our partnership with the USO – to listen in, click HERE!

Marina Trans Jungle Moves to Mexico

By | News Releases | No Comments

Mexican Naval Infantry Forces Select US4CES Transitional Camouflage

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (October 14, 2015)Hyperstealth will be providing two types of its US4CES Transitional combat camouflage to the Infanteria de Marina, Naval Infantry of Mexico. The pattern was selected after rigorous objective testing proved the US4CES Transitional camouflage was almost twice as effective as their existing digital pattern and Multicam in three separate environments. The US4CES Transitional pattern has been renamed “Marina Trans Jungle” and will be used to replace all uniforms in the Infanteria de Marina.

The US4CES Transitional pattern originated in 2010 as a result of Guy Cramer/ADS, Inc.’s bid for the U.S. Army’s “Phase IV Camouflage Improvement Effort” designed to replace the existing camouflage pattern. The US4CES Transitional pattern was made available for consideration by other militaries and government agencies in 2014.

“These test results, demonstrate the versatility of this pattern, not just in competition with other patterns, but rather as being effective in its own right. Hyperstealth patterns are in demand because they continue to prove to be very effective, employing scientific doctrine which reduced detection by an adversary. Our patterns also capitalize on the disguising joint movement, tricking the brain into not triggering the ‘threat’ whistle. The results are astounding.”

-Guy Cramer, President & CEO of Hyperstealth Biotechnology

Objective testing in three separate environments, lowland forest, lowland scrub desert and riparian forest, pitted US4CES Transitional pattern against the existing force digital woodland camouflage. Over the course of multiple trials, the final results demonstrate that the US4CES Transitional pattern is significantly more difficult to detect than the existing Mexican Marine camouflage. It took 30 percent longer to detect the US4CES pattern than it did to detect the woodland digital pattern in the same environment whereas in one environment, a large percentage of the viewers could not even detect the target. The Marina Trans Jungle pattern demonstrates a significant improvement in performance over the previously used Mexican Marine pattern with regard to detection time and probability of detection in all tested environments.

“When the Mexican government decided that the US4CES Transitional pattern was the way to go, we knew that we had the resources to outfit the entire force,” said Akos “Ike” Horvath, ADS Operational Clothing and Individual Equipment (OCIE) product & application specialist. “The ADS and HyperStealth team has already demonstrated that we can outfit and design uniforms and hardware for any force in any terrain in any country. Providing this complete camouflage solution to the Mexican government is another way we can demonstrate the type of value we provide to our customers. We deliver complete solutions that really get the job done.”  The charts below represent the results of the tests conducted by the Mexican Marina.

About HyperStealth Biotechnology Corp. First established in March 1999, by Guy Cramer, HyperStealth Biotechnology Corp. develops and provides cutting- edge military camouflage based on mathematical fractals, elevating the design process to a scientific level of scientific expertise. SIX15’s HALO Rx Puts Advanced Medical Capabilities on the Front Lines

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. (September 23, 2015):

SIX15 TECHNOLOGIES

Current combat missions in austere environments with limited resources are changing the dynamics of battlefield medicine. The special operations community is quickly revising its standing medical care practices to address more prolonged care scenarios with an emphasis on developing new methods of communicating patient status and data as well as receiving remote medical assistance. Getting expert medical advice and treatment to wounded service members as quickly and efficiently as possible has always been a challenge for the U.S. military. Come to think of it, this has been the case for just about every military on the planet. While the standard MEDEVAC and CASEVAC conventions get the job done pretty handily, they are not as efficient as they could be due to information gaps and the lack of on-the-scene medical expertise. These are two of primary issues the HALO Rx. system, developed primarily by SIX15 Technologies, in partnership with ADS, Inc. hopes to address.

six15 halo rx

HALO Rx is a helmet-mounted monocle or eyeglasses with built-in heads-mounted-display (HMD) that highlights active patient data in the field of view. Patient vitals are collected by vital sign pucks and transmitted from forward-deployed medical stations via vital signs pucks to a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) certified cloud. The HIPAA cloud can be accessed by an advanced medical provider at an off-site, fixed medical facility. Additionally, the system’s open architecture allows for any information gathered by medical devices with output capability to be collected in the field and transmitted back to the fixed facility. The HALO Rx is like having an on-scene medical expert, even in the most remote and challenging environments. On-scene medical personnel facilitate the interaction between off-site advanced medical providers and the patient. Live video, voice and patient data are captured from the point of injury or within an evacuation vehicle. This data is encrypted and transmitted over any network to the HIPAA cloud provided by Adhere2Care (A2C). This real-time consultation enables continuous medical treatment and reduces gaps in information and triage as a patient is administered care. Advanced providers can guide and direct medical treatment as required.

“We don’t have enough doctors to cover all the battlefields. Their advice is absolutely needed,” said Brad Stewart, ADS Medical Team Business Development Manager. “That’s the beauty of HALO. Anyone can use it, medical professional or not. It is designed to deliver real-time advanced medicine experts’ advice at the point-of-injury through point-of-view telemedicine. You become the eyes, ears and hands of the doctor.

Another benefit of having access to expert medical advice down-range is determining the appropriate response to medical issues. In the past, forward-deployed medical facilities would err on the side of caution when deciding whether or not to MEDEVAC a patient. The HALO Rx consultations with medical experts help on-site medical professionals determine the right treatment or level of care rather than defaulting to a MEDEVAC. This keeps the movement of personnel in and out of hostile areas to a minimum. It also supports the notion of prolonged field care (PFC) as opposed to the overuse of limited resources for unnecessary patient evacuations.

PFC is the result of longer times on station due, more specifically, to those operating in Africa, where even an emergency CASEVAC can take 36 to 72 hours to move from one echelon of care to the next. PFC is becoming a standard of care for SOCOM teams where CASEVAC and MEDEVAC missions are no longer a viable option. Telemedicine has become the key component to PFC. Currently there are courses of instruction that the U.S. State Department and various SOCOM units are developing through groups such as JTM Training Group in Las Vegas.

“The Halo Rx is a game-changer in the wearables and telemedicine revolution,” said Jim Donnelly, vice president of business development at SIX 15 Technologies. “As the adoption for devices like the Halo Rx continues to grow, we will see the walls of interoperability start to come down, investments grow and more partnerships start to form. We have the opportunity and honor to design innovative devices and technology that exponentially improve the care available to military personnel in remote areas and beyond. It’s no small task, but we are off to a promising start.”

About SIX15 SIX15 Technologies is the world leader in researching, developing and manufacturing wearable optical displays. SIX15 Technologies develop both off-the-shelf and customer smart glass solutions for Fortune 500 companies and government and defense agencies. We specialize in high-resolution, head-mounted displays (HMD) and optoelectronic module (OEM) manufacturing. Located in Henrietta, N.Y., our 9,000 square foot productions facility manufactures OEM components for thermal images, industrial display systems, R&D projects and customer computing and display solutions.
