(March 11, 2015) – ADS, Inc. has been recognized as a Gold Tier supplier for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) as part of the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Superior Supplier Incentive Program (SSIP). The SSIP is an extension of the Better Buying Power Initiative that began in 2010, designed to identify the highest performing suppliers for 2013-2014, measured in areas such as cost, schedule, performance, quality and business relations. “Given DLA’s mission to support our warfighters around the world, it’s important to recognize those companies with proven track records for superior performance in government contracting,” DLA acquisition directorate chief Matthew Beebe said. The Gold Level/Top Performer distinction is the highest bracket that can be awarded to a company. To even be eligible for consideration, companies must have DLA contracts with a proven record of performance as well as an established rating with the federal Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS). More than 150 suppliers were considered for these awards, with only the top 40 selected as DLA’s superior suppliers. ADS is part of the top 15 selected for the Gold Level. In late 2013, ADS restructured our sales and business development teams to align more closely with the way our DOD customers classify their missions and areas of responsibility to provide better overall support for their requirements. Six teams were created to focus on developing more targeted solutions portfolios – Organizational Clothing & Individual Equipment (OCIE), Medical, Combat Support Equipment (CSE), C4ISR, Weapons & Optics, and last but not least, SMS.
The first five categories are fairly well known, but what about the sixth? What exactly is SMS? Among others, we’ve heard “Specialty Mission Stuff”, “Specialized Mission Support”, and even “I don’t remember what it stands for, but they handle everything else”. While these attempts to define SMS always garner a laugh and serve as an invitation for our SMS team to break out their elevator brief, it also means we haven’t done a good enough job educating people outside of the company. The breakdown below will help to clear things up.
SMS = “Special Missions Solutions”. Our SMS Team is focused on supporting customers whose missions require unique and specialized capabilities, including:
First Responders
Think Fire & Emergency Services and disaster response. We provide solutions ranging from turnout gear, respiratory protection, and gas detection, to gear washers and dryers. Additional solutions include storage, thermal imaging, extrication, rescue, and breaching equipment. We also offer training services such as recertification courses as well as the equipment and aids required to support our customers ongoing readiness efforts.
Maritime & Dive
Rooted in the diving community, ADS was founded as an offshoot of Lynnhaven Dive Center in Virginia Beach. Our first customers were Navy Seals who required supplemental dive gear for their mission. For more than a decade, we have continued this tradition and expanded our diving and maritime portfolio to include apparel, equipment, compressors, underwater communications, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), subsea equipment such as lifting bags, watercraft, and maritime motors.
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, & Explosive (CBRNE)
Three words: Detection, Protection, and Decontamination. ADS Inc. awarded contract to supply INI Power Systems One Man Portable Generators (1MPG) for USMC One Man Portable Battery Charger Requirement.
Virginia Beach, Virginia. Feb 3, 2015: ADS Inc. announced today that it has been awarded the contract to supply the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) with One Man Portable Generators (1MPGs) to support the Marine Corps One Man Portable Battery Charger Requirement Program of Record.
ADS will utilize INI Power’s One Man Portable Generators featuring OMNIVORE™ Engine Technology (GSA Advantage: INI POWER) to meet 1MPG Single Fuel Forward requirements. INI’s One Man Portable Generators provide a real-time solution to bridge the power and energy capability gaps required to generate 1kW of electrical power using JP-8 fuel in support of GREENS and One-Man Portable Battery Chargers.
