“Top Performer” Status Given for Excellence in Government Contracting

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 11, 2015) – ADS, Inc. has been recognized as a Gold Tier supplier for the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) as part of the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Superior Supplier Incentive Program (SSIP). The SSIP is an extension of the Better Buying Power Initiative that began in 2010, designed to identify the highest performing suppliers for 2013-2014, measured in areas such as cost, schedule, performance, quality and business relations. “Given DLA’s mission to support our warfighters around the world, it’s important to recognize those companies with proven track records for superior performance in government contracting,” DLA acquisition directorate chief Matthew Beebe said. The Gold Level/Top Performer distinction is the highest bracket that can be awarded to a company. To even be eligible for consideration, companies must have DLA contracts with a proven record of performance as well as an established rating with the federal Contractor Performance Assessment Reporting System (CPARS). More than 150 suppliers were considered for these awards, with only the top 40 selected as DLA’s superior suppliers. ADS is part of the top 15 selected for the Gold Level. From its’ inception, the company was built around supporting DOD customers and has maintained multiple DLA procurement programs since winning its first contract in 2000. Currently, ADS is ranked as DLA’s seventh largest contractor and 45th overall with DOD contractors according to Bloomberg Government’s (BGOV) 200 Federal Industry Leaders 2014 report.

“Every member of the ADS team is focused on solving our customers’ challenges. This award just validates that we are doing what we set out to do and that we are an integral part of the community we serve.”

With the growing number of maritime assault engagements, the need for buoyant, ballistic plate carriers is becoming a “must have” in the maritime community. FirstSpear™ has made use of several decades of acquired operational experience in maritime operations to develop a complete kit for utilization of a ballistic armor plate carrier in an operational maritime profile.

There are multiple factors to consider when developing equipment for the maritime assault mission. In addition to the usual threats posed by a hostile environment, operators must also take in to account the risks of drowning and hypothermia. When addressing the requirements posed by the U.S. Navy, FirstSpear™ analyzed the needs and mission requirements from multiple angles to offer true maritime-integrated capabilities.

The result is a highly water-resistant ballistic plate carrier composed of lightweight materials that are easy to wear and adjust. This system offers full flexibility and enhanced safety for operations in the maritime environment. The carrier addresses the drowning issue with buoyancy compensation inserts that help maintain a slightly neutral capability while transporting a basic equipment load. Utilizing the latest in FirstSpear™ technologies, including the 6/12™ pocket attachment system and TUBES™, this is a state of the art capability designed to support maritime assault operations.

FirstSpear‘s™ core mission is to support the people that risk everything for our country and freedoms. What is integrated into the FirstSpear™ line is reflective of constant dialogue with users that are on the very tip of the spear. FirstSpear™ achieves this relationship by putting complete focus on the end-user’s needs and their overarching requirements. Each subcomponent of the overall system integrates field feedback from concept development, through rapid prototyping and ultimately production and delivery. Impact to the overall weight, form, function and durability is considered in every detail down to fabric and hardware selection.

ADS is proud to partner with FirstSpear™. They have created hundreds of new products, designed to cater to the needs of our specialized customers, and they share our core value of putting the operator’s mission first. Their products provides a solution that addresses a much-needed capability by developing equipment that is lighter and more capable without sacrificing durability and function. In a nutshell, if you want the best in lethality and survivability, you can count on FirstSpear™ to get it done.

The U.S. Marine Corps selected Manta products as “standard issue” for the new M-27 infantry automatic rifle. Manta’s revolutionary material and cutting-edge designs have been recognized by and issued to military around the world for its ability to increase weapons’ operational effectiveness.

Manta’s heat-mitigating, “rubber-like” materials are manufactured from proprietary formulas that in some applications can withstand temperatures in excess of 1000’F and simply will not melt! This material doesn’t just provide a layer of cool between you and your blazing hot firearm or suppressor- it is multi-functional, ultra grip-able, and nearly indestructible.

Heat divergent segments, convection channels, Micro Pocket technology and an internal stainless steel skeleton all play their role in creating a weapon accessory system unlike anything else. Manta creates a thermal barrier, routes and installs accessory wires and switches in seconds and protects you and your gear from the hazards that plague weapon systems.

Increasing weapon capabilities and improving and operator’s experience is what Manta is about. Additionally, everything that goes into all Manta products including all manufacturing and materials are USA made – literally EVERYTHING.

ADS looks forward to continue educating and supplying our end-users with quality products from Manta.  To learn more about our Weapon and Optics Solutions and to order a catalog please see below or click HERE.  Be sure to check out the links below and the Manta website to learn more about their products!

In late 2013, ADS restructured our sales and business development teams to align more closely with the way our DOD customers classify their missions and areas of responsibility to provide better overall support for their requirements. Six teams were created to focus on developing more targeted solutions portfolios – Organizational Clothing & Individual Equipment (OCIE), Medical, Combat Support Equipment (CSE), C4ISR, Weapons & Optics, and last but not least, SMS.

The first five categories are fairly well known, but what about the sixth? What exactly is SMS? Among others, we’ve heard “Specialty Mission Stuff”, “Specialized Mission Support”, and even “I don’t remember what it stands for, but they handle everything else”. While these attempts to define SMS always garner a laugh and serve as an invitation for our SMS team to break out their elevator brief, it also means we haven’t done a good enough job educating people outside of the company. The breakdown below will help to clear things up.

SMS = “Special Missions Solutions”.  Our SMS Team is focused on supporting customers whose missions require unique and specialized capabilities, including:

First Responders

Think Fire & Emergency Services and disaster response. We provide solutions ranging from turnout gear, respiratory protection, and gas detection, to gear washers and dryers.  Additional solutions include storage, thermal imaging, extrication, rescue, and breaching equipment. We also offer training services such as recertification courses as well as the equipment and aids required to support our customers ongoing readiness efforts.

Maritime & Dive

Rooted in the diving community, ADS was founded as an offshoot of Lynnhaven Dive Center in Virginia Beach. Our first customers were Navy Seals who required supplemental dive gear for their mission. For more than a decade, we have continued this tradition and expanded our diving and maritime portfolio to include apparel, equipment, compressors, underwater communications, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), subsea equipment such as lifting bags, watercraft, and maritime motors.

Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, & Explosive (CBRNE)

Three words: Detection, Protection, and Decontamination. Threat detection and identification tools, personal protective apparel and equipment, a wide variety of solid and liquid decontamination systems, as well as training equipment – If your mission involves CBRNE threats, ADS has all the solutions your readiness requires.

Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) & Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD)

This category includes solutions required to locate, identify, evaluate, render safe, recover, and dispose of CBRNE ordinance and devices.

Robotics

ADS is at the forefront of providing robotics solutions to DOD, federal agencies, and law enforcement.  As robotics technology advances, new and innovative capabilities are being developed that significantly reduce loss of life, mitigate threats to first responders and warfighters, and make their missions dramatically safer.  In many cases, robots can take the place of humans in dangerous environments which is why the military has incorporated robots into virtually every aspect of combat operations.

Now you know! If you have requirements that fall into these categories – ADS has a team dedicated to your mission. To learn more about how we can help support your SMS mission, grab a copy of our new Special Missions Catalog or learn more here.
