Dining-Out Program Raises Money for Local Non-Profit

By | Mission Give Back, Warrior Expo | No Comments

ADS’ Warrior Expo Turns “Dining Out” into “Helping Out” for the USO

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (August 10, 2015) – ADS, Inc. provided more than exhibit space and brand awareness to one of its partner non-profit organizations at the company’s widely attended Warrior Expo this July. ADS developed the Dining for a Purpose program as a special project that involves partnering with select local restaurants to raise funds for the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia (USO HRCV).

The concept of the program was to direct Warrior Expo attendees and exhibitors to the selected establishments that have agreed to donate 10 percent of the proceeds from their visit to the USO HRCV. With more than 2,000 customers and 300 vendors in attendance, over the course of two days, the dollars added up to more than $2000 being donated to the USO HRCV.

“We are pretty thrilled with the outcome of this program,” said Deborah Gries, ADS’ Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator. “I like to think that this type of program gives the community a better understanding of who we are as a company. We love our community and we love the military because we are part of the community and many of our employees come from the military or military families. We are lucky that we can give back to the people we care about.”

The donated funds will go toward supporting the USO HRCV’s mission to “lift the spirits of America’s troops and their families by enhancing the quality of life and public support for our armed services with offerings that might not otherwise be affordable or available to them.” This includes service centers that provide assistance and outreach for military members and their families as well as numerous events such as the USO Warrior Week, Military Appreciation Day at the Virginia Zoo and the annual USO Holiday Party.

“Partnering with ADS for their Dining for Purpose program has been a wonderful experience. Our mission is all about enriching the lives of military families. It’s such a great fit to work with a company like ADS that shares our passion for service to the military community. We look forward to working with them on similar projects in the future.”                                                                                             – Paula Moran, President and CEO of the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia

The money raised during this year’s program will go towards funding the operational costs of USO HRCV’s 11 welcome centers in the area which touch the lives of more than 450,000 active duty military and their family members each year. Based on the success of this year’s inaugural run, the program will most certainly be implemented at next year’s Warrior Expo with plans on expanding it to the West Coast show in San Diego. The Dining For a Purpose program is just one of the ways ADS works with its partner non-profit organizations. Participating non-profits are showcased at Warrior Expo as well as ADS’ participation and support for various events throughout the year.

Local Defense Company Provides More for Customers and Community

Warrior Expo East Debuts Expeditionary Combat and Support Solution Center as Well as Dining for a Cause Program

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (July 2, 2015) – ADS, Inc. has always put its customers first, especially when it comes to the company’s Warrior Expo. This year, ADS is taking it to the next level by rolling out two new programs designed to enhance the customer experience and give back to the military community.

Warrior Expo is a premiere defense industry event designed to bring end-users, program managers and procurement specialists together with industry-leading product and service providers in an environment specifically for government and defense organizations. While the traditional exhibit booth setup will be the primary layout for the show, ADS is moving toward putting some of the innovative solutions in context by integrating products from key partners in an Expeditionary Combat and Support Solution Center.

The idea behind the [Expeditionary Combat and Support] Solution Center is to have customers see, in-person, how the products they need for their missions can work together,” said Meghan Parker, Combat Support Equipment Supplier Account Manager and the brain-child behind the idea. “We want to give our customers a complete solution. It’s not enough that we tell them. Sometimes, the best way is to show them.

The Expeditionary Combat and Support Solution Center will highlight mobile dental and medical response systems, an HDT Global Tactical Operations Center (TOC) as well as a tools, equipment and kitting (TEK) resource hub. The Solution Center will also demonstrate the applicability of hybrid and renewable power sources, including rugged solar energy solutions for expeditionary and remote power needs and a hybrid renewable energy power management system designed to power critical assets in the most demanding environments.

Warrior Expo also continues to host ADS’s non-profit partners on Non-profit Row at the Expo show center. This year, the company will build on those relationships with the Dining for a Cause program. This special project involves partnering with select local restaurants to raise funds for the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia (USO HRCV). During the Expo, when vendors and customers visit these establishments, 10 percent of the proceeds from their visit will be donated to the USO HRCV.

This program is especially meaningful to us because it is our chance to work with some amazing organizations to give back to the military community. Their needs are at the core of our mission,” said Deborah Gries, ADS’ Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinator. “It’s more than just saying we care about the military community. It’s another way for us to deliver on our promise to serve those who serve.

Expo participants and customers will be encouraged to attend the following restaurants during Warrior Expo: Beach Bella Pizza, The Beach Bully, Thirty 7 North Restaurant and Bar, il Giardino, Croc’s 19th Street Bistro, Cactus Jack’s Southwest Grill, Five 01 City Grill, 11th Street Taphouse & Grill, Waterman’s Surfside Grille, Calypso Bar & Grill, Chicho’s Pizza  and CP Shuckers.

Warrior Expo will also feature Breakout Sessions, Demonstrations and an interactive game of TicTacToe.  To register and learn more about Warrior Expo East check out the information below or CLICK HERE.

All in all, I think what we, as a company, are really driving toward is taking our customer service to the next level and presenting customers with the complete solution,” said Ryan Angold, Vice President of Market Sales. “If they can only attend one show per year, we want them to choose ours because they know they will find the very best support and everything they need to get the job done.

Local Combat-Wounded Veteran Makes The Jump

Wounded Wear Sponsors ‘Jumping for a Purpose’ at Virginia Beach Oceanfront

There was no trace of uncertainty when Greg Hedrick joined the U.S. Army as an 11th grader in 2003. He was the ¬first member of his family to do so, but military service was nothing new to the Hedrick family, as other members of his family had already served in every branch. Military service runs in their blood.

Twelve years after Hendrick took his initial oath, he finds himself in a Virginia Beach hotel conference room with other veterans, all who have at least two things in common: they are all going skydiving as part of Wounded Wear’s “Jump for a Purpose” campaign, and all were wounded in combat.

Hedrick’s career as an infantry mortarman made an abrupt change at the nine-year mark of his service during his third deployment. While in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Hedrick and his team were struck by an RPG while pulling security duty for a vehicle that had been damaged by an IED. One team member perished and three were injured. Hedrick was one of the three.

“My initial reaction was one of, ‘Why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this? It wasn’t long before my attitude changed to anger toward the people who did this to me before eventually realizing that my sacrifice was in the service of my country. It really changed my perspective.”    – Greg Hedrick

It was at this time that Wounded Wear, founded by former U.S. Navy SEAL and combat- wounded veteran Jason “Jay” Redman in 2009, came onto Hedrick’s radar. Wounded Wear’s vision is to guide combat-wounded warriors to and a purpose-driven life and peace of mind after the impact of war. Jay’s personal story is a testament to wounded warriors and all Americans that there is no obstacle that cannot be overcome if you have the drive, determination and tenacity to rise above.

Wounded Wear was built on the premise that combat-wounded warriors should wear their scars with pride. Whereas the public generally misinterprets combat-related injures, Wounded Wear channels the attention and champions the scars worn by our nation’s heroes. It changes in the way people interact with wounded warriors and it challenges the warriors to discover the hero within.

“When I first met Greg at an event, I reached out to him, just like I do with every combat-wounded veteran I meet,” said Redman. “I want all warriors to know that Wounded Wear does more than supply clothing. We are a one-stop shop that is here to support them in all phases of their lives, ultimately creating peace and purpose.”

Redman and the team at Wounded Wear invited Hedrick, along with 24 other wounded American heroes, to participate in the annual Jumping for a Purpose event held in conjunction with USO Warrior Week at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

“Jumping for a Purpose is not just about going skydiving,” said Redman. “It’s about overcoming the fear that holds us back. It’s about stepping into the unknown. When a person has been through so much, it is a symbolic departure from their previous mindset to their realization that they are truly capable of doing something amazing.”

It was Hedrick’s first Patriotic Festival as well as his first jump as part of the Jumping for a Purpose program, but certainly not his first event with Wounded Wear. In fact he attributes his new perspective to Wounded Wear because he believes that they have the best understanding of the challenges that combat-wounded veterans face. He also draws strength and support from others like him.

“Wounded Wear is my favorite organization to work with,” said Hedrick. “They do the most that they can to help as many of us as possible and there is no drive to profit off of it. It’s genuine and that’s what makes them great.”

These days, Hedrick and his family peacefully reside in North Carolina. He continues to participate in Wounded Wear events, not just because of the support it gives him, but also because he understands how much an impact he can have on others. His  final words for others, “I would do it all again. I have found that it only gets easier because the hardest part is always behind you.”

Thank you Wounded Wear for letting us join you!

Virginia Beach Supplier Joins White House Discussion on Energy

By | News Releases | No Comments

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 30, 2015) ADS, Inc., a Virginia Beach, Va. based federal supplier recently participated in an industry roundtable discussion with President Barack Obama at the White House, along with representatives from SAIC, United Technologies, Honeywell, General Electric and other major U.S. firms. Each of these commercial companies represents more than $1 billion in government business and account for $45 billion in total contract spending. This executive level dialogue concentrated on collaborative strategies to drive better energy efficiency strategies throughout the supply chain and within end-user communities. This was done in advance of an Executive Order signed by President Obama on March 19, calling for the reduction of emissions that are currently driving climate change. This issuance targets the reduction of the Federal Government’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions 40 percent over the next decade from 2008 levels. According to the White House, this reduction would save agencies $18 billion in avoided energy costs and require the federal government to increase the amount of renewable energy it consumes by 30 percent. As part of the initiative, these companies pledged to reduce their own carbon footprint by 5 million metric tons over the next 10 years. This incentive would cut U.S. emissions by 26 million tons by 2025, the equivalent of removing almost 5.5 million cars from the road for a year. Currently, ADS is expanding its energy efficiency offerings to its Department of Defense (DOD) and federal customers. Whereas, the company’s primary energy efficiency target has been operational energy for expeditionary forces, ADS is leveraging its expertise and success in this field and applying it to other energy challenges being faced by the DOD.

“Providing innovative energy solutions in support of our troops in combat has been a central focus of ADS for the past decade,” said Karan Rai, president and chief financial officer of ADS, and the executive who represented the company at the White House event. “Expanding that effort to aid our broader customer base with an ever-expanding array of energy-efficient solutions is key to our team’s future growth.” In keeping with the directives outlined in the DOD’s Operational Energy Strategy, ADS initiatives target solutions that reduce the demand for energy in military operations through the use of energy-efficient power systems. The range of capabilities encompasses LED-lighting solutions with the U.S. Navy to complete power generation and distribution solutions through flex fuel and hybrid power systems. ADS is also partnering with companies to reevaluate the energy efficiency of current power generation and distribution solutions to determine if there are more environmentally friendly options. ADS aims to reduce the carbon footprint of its customers by promoting renewable energy technologies to provide complete energy-efficient solutions. Large Antenna Order Received to Keep DOD on the Move

By | News Releases | No Comments

ADS works with Exelis and Gilat to Supply $7.6M Antenna order for DOD

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 23, 2015) –  Exelis (NYSE: XLS) has received orders valued at $7.6 million from ADS, Inc. on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense through the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Tailored Logistics Support (TLS) program to provide mission command on-the-move systems. The systems will be used for undisclosed worldwide deployments.  Exelis in turn ordered its first procurement of tri-band SR300 Satcom-on-the-move (SOTM) antennas from Gilat. Called Global Network on the Move-Active Distribution, or GNOMAD, the system provides a broadband, satellite communication (SATCOM) on-the-move (SOTM) networked command and control connectivity. With GNOMAD, Exelis delivers a combat-proven, modular, reliable communications system that fully integrates into a variety of armored combat vehicles, commercial SUVs, and military platforms of all descriptions. The GNOMAD antenna consists of Gilat’s RaySat SR300 antenna, Wavestream BUC and an innovative, military-grade Antenna Control Unit (ACU) designed by Gilat to power both the antenna and the BUC. GNOMAD is based on an open system architecture, using low-profile antennae designs, in a reduced size, weight and power profile. The system has previously supported deployed U.S. Army units and the Department of Homeland Security during critical domestic emergency response missions. This delivery of GNOMAD systems also includes ground station satellite hubs, training and installation services and the ability to leverage commercial Ku satellite services and, once certified, X Band satellite services on the DoD Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) Constellation. The SR300X is beginning WGS certification and the SR-300Ka will be available to begin WGS certification in the spring of 2015. At only 28 pounds, the SR-300 series antenna can be removed and replaced in less than 10 minutes providing increased flexibility on the battlefield. “GNOMAD is a proven mission essential command and control on-the-move solution ideal for the difficult communications environment that Army units operate in daily while deployed,” said Nick Bobay, president of the Exelis Night Vision and Communications Solutions division.

GNOMAD 3.23.15

Low-profile antenna mounts easily on commercial or military vehicle.

“As a leader in satellite network technology for the U.S. military and its international allies, we are proud to have worked with ADS to have GNOMAD deployed again in a combat environment where ease of use, multiple vehicle integration and dependable communication are critical.” Production for this contract will be accomplished at the Exelis facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with deliveries completed by March 2015.
